When I received my first selection of better than drug store make-up, I was 16 and my cousin gave me her bonus days gift. It came in a little cardboard purple Clinique “bag” that I kept for an outrageously long time because it was the nicest cosmetics gift I had ever had and probably the only one until I started buying them for myself...nasty habit to break…I’d recommend not starting as the first step. The second is admitting you have a make-up hoarding problem. But I digress.
The bonus days…there was probably a lipstick, which I may still have; I probably need to throw out all of my Clinique lipsticks just to be safe. There was definitely an eyeshadow palette, a mascara, a face wash and a lotion. I used many of these to get ready for homecoming later that spring.
At some point after that day, I discovered that bonus days were actually a thing that happened regularly. You could buy a product (that I couldn’t afford at the time) or two and get this whole bag of other goodies absolutely free. When I became grown-up enough to actually make enough money to buy both books and make-up, I started partaking at the Bonus Days table regularly.
To this day, some nearly half of my life later, if I need a new Clinique product or a replacement, I seek out Bonus Days at online stores or look through my latest local department store flyer to find my free bag of goodies with purchase. This month my need for Chubby Eyeshadow sticks (they’ve spoiled me!) and the timely arrival of a Dillards flyer in the mail created the perfect storm of being able to buy makeup I already needed and get my Bonus Days on at the same time. Double bonus: with a slightly larger dollar amount purchase, I received two eyeshadow chubbies free on top of the eyeshadow chubbies I was already buying. I ended up buying four chubby sticks and a mascara and getting the make-up bag to the left and two chubby sticks free.
This bonus days event at Dillards is running from September 4 to September 23 while supplies last. When I shopped online, I’m pretty sure a couple of the chubbies were already out of stock, and they seemed to have colors in the bonus selection that I didn’t encounter when shopping for new shades for myself. The make-up bag (one of the two options, violet or pink) with product is free with a $27 purchase while the chubbies are for those spending $55 and over. My eyeshadow chubbies didn’t attach immediately as I was shopping though when I exceeded $55. That could have been a first day bug though, but watch out for it just in case so you don’t end up charged for make-up you thought would be free.
