My progress report for last week’s Motivation Monday: Cutting Out the Butter appears below, but I wanted to jump right in here at the top to talk about my goal for the upcoming week. I want to do a Pilates work out everyday for seven days. Back when I was in the best shape of my life, Pilates was an essential part of my workout program, and it was also the kickstarter that led me to all the other workouts I got involved in.
I have several Pilates DVD, but my favorite still remains the one I started with: Pilates the Authentic Way featuring Dina Matty and Keft Burdell as instructors. This DVD and its accompanying book were issued by a company (Hinkler) that seems to produce books and kits sort of like Wiley (creators of “For Dummies). Their products are largely instructional and in a multimedia form when the product benefits from it.
This DVD really guides you through the Pilates process in a safe and accessible way in both a beginner’s and intermediate workout. It doesn’t contain every Pilates exercise, but you don’t need to know every move when you are just getting started at home. A beginner’s Pilates workout will help you strengthen your core and prepare you for the more intense exercises you will encounter later – both within Pilates itself and outside of it. I found that everything I did – stepping, kickboxing, and dancing benefited from my torso feeling like what it truly is – a solid core with appendages….and I think at the end of the day that is why I love Pilates. It is like a Magic School Bus Journey inside yourself introducing you to the way your body is supposed to work when it isn’t broken down by days in a desk chair and nights in front of the TV. I am looking forward to feeling that way again.
My goal for the week: Pilates every day. It doesn’t have to be intermediate level stuff. Even doing the beginner’s level workout will be great.
Progress report on last week: I totally killed cutting down on the butter. I actually consumed less than my stated goal by opting for a hard egg wrapped in one piece of plain bread for breakfast most mornings. This works out really good for me because having the protein rich egg with the carby bread makes a pretty balanced breakfast that really does keep me from wanting to nibble for several hours.
