Selling the house next door.
After seeing a family with several children leave the house next door after a viewing of the real estate, Mr. Wilson decides to find a new owner for the home to ensure they are childless.
The owner offers to give Mr. Wilson a 5% commission if he can unload the house. Dennis asks if he can sell the house and get the .05 commission, the owner agrees. Unfortunately, at the end of the episode when Dennis does sell the house, the owner does only give a nickel. Bit of a cheapskate!
Dennis literally attempts to drum up business by banging his drum. After this racket, Mr. Wilson decides to visit Martha and his friends the Scotts to convince them to buy the house next door instead of renting a new important.
Mr. Wilson didn’t get invited to a party in this episode and expresses his displeasure over it to Alice after she asks him if the Mitchells will see him and Martha at the party tonight.
The Scotts come over to look at the house and are immediately stuffy. Mr. Wilson makes a joke about the “Great Scotts” that falls totally flat. While it wasn’t the best.joke.ever., it wasn’t a total dud. As the Scotts are chatting inside the Wilson home, Dennis and his pals are trying to find a house to throw a surprise party in after having spent some money Mr. Wilson gave him to go away for the afternoon on ice cream. When his mom scolds him for trying to host the party in the house, she mentions that Mr. Wilson is upset about not having been invited to the surprise party. Any sane person who knows Dennis instantly knows at this point what would happen next. Mr. Wilson gets the surprise party down to Mr. Scotts getting ice cream in his hat.
Obviously the Scotts don’t buy the home, but the window repairman fixing a window Mr. Wilson slammed down and broke earlier in the day while chatting with Dennis does end up buying the home on Dennis’ recommendation.
And….to add insult to injury…
The repairman has three kids and one on the way, and, as Dennis says, “the one on the way is gonna be two of them.” When Mr. Wilson finds out he breaks his rake over his knee and runs inside.
